| BIOGRAPHIES RANDY GIOIA Principal, The Law Office of Randy Gioia, Boston, MA email: randy@gioialaw.com Known for his thorough research, compelling arguments and powerful presence in the courtroom, Randy Gioia is a Boston-based criminal defense attorney who has successfully represented people who have been accused of murder, arson, sexual assault, shaken baby syndrome, fraud, drug offenses, driving while intoxicated, and many other crimes. Working in both Massachusetts state courts and federal courts, Mr. Gioia has taken over 100 jury trials to verdict, including ten first degree murder trials. From the international legal association Martindale-Hubbell Mr. Gioia has earned an AV Peer Review rating, the highest possible professional rating. Since 1988 he has been certified by the Committee for Public Counsel Services to accept assignments in murder cases and has been a Criminal Justice Act panel member since 1996. Mr. Gioia has served on the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys and as the co-chairman of the Boston Bar Association's Criminal Law Section. He has written chapters for books on defending sexual assault cases and murder cases in Massachusetts. ELIZABETH BILLOWITZ Of Counsel, The Law Office of Randy Gioia, Boston, MA email: elizabeth@gioialaw.com In 2004, Elizabeth Billowitz joined the Law Office of Randy Gioia. Drawing on several years of judicial clerkship and criminal defense litigation experience, Ms. Billowitz performs legal research and writes briefs and appeals. With Mr. Gioia, she has crafted cutting-edge written arguments in cases ranging from homicide to drug trafficking to sex crimes. From 1999 to 2004, she was a career clerk for the First Circuit Court of Appeals, assisting the Honorable Norman H. Stahl, Hugh H. Bownes, and Levin H. Campbell in civil and criminal matters. Prior to her First Circuit clerkship, Ms. Billowitz was a litigation associate at the Boston law firm Foley Hoag LLP. From 1996 to 1999, she practiced in the firm’s white-collar criminal defense and employment law departments. She also participated in a number of pro bono civil rights and civil liberties cases as cooperating counsel with the American Civil Liberties Union of Massachusetts, NOW Legal Defense and Education Fund, and Planned Parenthood. In 1995-1996, Ms. Billowitz clerked in the Massachusetts Superior Court. Ms. Billowitz graduated from the Northeastern University School of Law in 1995, and from Brown University, magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, in 1991.
