Noise Complaint, Questionable Arrest, Alleged Beating at Police Station
Three police officers handcuffed Victor White and two friends and hauled them to Lynn police headquarters on charges of public drinking, an arrest that one expert called questionable. Since then, Attorney Gioia successfully persuaded the Commonwealth to drop the charges against Mr. White and the other two men. An independent investigation was thereafter opened into one of the police officers, and the officer was criminal charged with assault and battery on Mr. White.

SJC Orders 3 Prisoners Released Because Of COVID-19
The Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts used three opinions released Friday to send a message to lower courts: Follow the guidelines we set when determining whether to release prisoners because of the coronavirus pandemic. Attorney Gioia’s client was one of three whose appeal was allowed and was ordered released.

Brothers Plead Not Guilty to Shooting
Two brothers pleaded not guilty Monday to a July 4 shooting in a city park that injured the 8-year-old daughter of one of the suspects and may leave another man paralyzed from the waist down, prosecutors said.
